About M.R. Forbes

I self-published my first novel in February, 2012. An urban fantasy called Balance, which I had spent the better part of three years kicking around in my head before deciding to start typing. During that same time, I'd been reading a lot of self-published books, and I decided that if they could do it, then so could I.

At the time, I set my bar for success at five reviews. Five readers whose feelings about my book were strong enough to spend the time to share their thoughts.

Today, I have thousands of reviews, and have sold millions of copies of my books. It's a dream that eight-year-old M.R. sitting in front of his electronic typewriter (no, really!) would never have imagined would one day become reality.

This shop is a few things.

First, it's an opportunity for me to get a little closer to my readers. You're coming to me directly, instead of buying my books as one of the thousands of authors on Amazon. And that's amazing.

Second, by selling direct I can offer better pricing on paperbacks and audiobooks. Unfortunately, I won't be able to sell all of my audiobooks as Podium Publishing holds rights to some and a few are under royalty share with Audible, but over time I intend to bring most of them here.

Third, despite the lower pricing I still keep more of the profit, since I'm not handing 30% to Amazon or 40% to Audible. So by purchasing here, you are literally helping me pay my bills.

When I say thank you for your support, I really mean it!

Oh, and yes, that caricature does look a lot like the real me. Maybe a little skinnier. Maybe a little more hair. And I never use a pen and paper to write anything because I'd never be able to read it back. But otherwise, just like me.
